Golf with NARI NYC/LI
National Association of the Remodeling Industry
Monday, July 14, NARI NYC/LI will take to the links with its annual Golf Classic at Port Jefferson Country Club at Harbor Hills. Registration starts at 9:30 a.m., with a putting contest and free time at the driving range. The shotgun start is at 11 a.m., with lunch on the turn. At 5 p.m., there will be a $50,000 shootout, and from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., there will be dinner, prizes and awards. Milwaukee NARI's STARS program starts in July
National Association of the Remodeling Industry
The State-of-The-Art-Remodeling-Specialists, or STARS, training program will be starting in Milwaukee Thurs., July 10. This five-month program, held the first Thursday of the month from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. The STARS member training program is for everyone, including general and single-line contractors, designers, sales and marketing professionals, project managers, business owners and office and administrative personnel. The five topics of the program are:
  • NARI & You: Build your business together (July 10)
  • Subcontractors and Supplier Management (Aug. 7)
  • Communications Skills: Establish standards for communication and proactive information sharing with customers (Sept. 4)
  • Project Management (Oct. 2)
  • Legal and Insurance (Nov. 6)

Small business confidence surges

The NFIB's small business confidence index came in at 96.6 for May — the highest reading since 2007. That also beat expectations for 95.8. Pantheon Macro's Ian Shepherdson says this index is more important than payrolls, and sees this jump to the as a major shift.

Nonresidential construction segments lost 500 jobs in May 2014

The U.S. construction industry only gained 6,000 jobs in May, according to the June 6 employment report by the U.S. Department of Labor. Nonresidential construction segments lost 500 jobs in May, a surprising departure from the 12,600 jobs added in April. The residential sector performed slightly better, adding 3,300 jobs for the month.

Facebook: Now 30M small businesses with active pages

Dan Levy, Facebook's director of small business, just said that the company has 30 million small businesses with active pages on the social network. That's up from 25 million from last November, when Facebook first started using its current definition to counting SMBs using its current definition. Levy shared the number during the press Q&A session at Facebook Fit, a small business-focused event.
