The NASC Nominating Committee is in the process of nominating six (6) new board members for 2015-2016 term, four (4) Active member representatives, one (1) Allied member representative, and one (1) Rights Holder member representative). The nominating committee is also in the process of nominating one (1) person who has served on the Board of Directors to serve as Secretary. All nominations must be received by Friday, Jan. 30, 2015 at 11:59 p.m. ET.

The Mobile (Alabama) Sports Authority is a non-profit sports commission with a mission to create a positive economic and public relations impact for Mobile County, the City of Mobile, and the region through attracting, hosting, managing and supporting sporting events which attract visitors to the Mobile area. MSA is the main point of contact for sports and sports-related activities for the Mobile County area.

Mobile County is famous for a rich sports tradition and can host just about any type of indoor and outdoor sporting event at any time of the year thanks to its semi-tropical climate. The MSA has the ability to successfully host a variety of athletic contests such as tennis, softball, baseball, basketball, and bass fishing as well as rugby, soccer, volleyball, and golf tournaments, gymnastics meets and many running events. Mobile can and does host a diverse number of sporting events, both big and small, and the MSA stands ready to be the point for visiting sporting events.

The annual NASC Member Awards recognize the outstanding achievements of our members and are presented at the NASC Sports Event Symposium each year. Member Awards are the highest honor an organization or individual in the sports tourism industry can receive as they are created and awarded by industry peers. For the 2015 Member Awards, activities, events, marketing campaigns, web strategies, etc. must have occurred between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2014.

A new look at old venues

The week between Christmas and New Year's Day is crammed with all kinds of sporting events, not the least of which is the New Year's traditional 2015 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic, featuring hockey (Chicago and Washington) playing outdoors, this time at the Washington Nationals stadium. These so-called "gimmick games" aren't anything new, but they do emphasize the point that sometimes a change of venue can give new life, and bring new fans, to any sport.

Plans unveiled for Columbus Blue Jackets All-Star Winter Park and community attractions surrounding 2015 NHL All-Star Weekend

As an enhancement to official events surrounding the 2015 NHL All-Star Celebration in January, the Columbus Blue Jackets announced plans for Columbus Blue Jackets All-Star Winter Park presented by Worthington Industries. The Columbus Blue Jackets All-Star Winter Park, located across the street from Nationwide Arena, will feature an outdoor ice rink, massive three-lane snow slide down Nationwide Boulevard and serve as the hub for outdoor entertainment for people of all ages before and during All-Star Weekend, which is set for Jan. 24-25.

Playoff football kicks off lucrative winter sports season in Providence/Warwick

As playoff football returns to New England once more, it kicks off a lucrative winter sports season for the Providence/Warwick area. In January alone, the Rhode Island Sports Commission projects that sporting events will consume nearly 7,400 hotel room nights. That figure does not include most Baltimore fans, who will most likely book outside reserved hotel room blocks.

Referee sues Hockey Canada over injuries after puck hit
Calgary Sun
An errant slapshot during a U-16 development camp game that struck a referee in the throat could cost Hockey Canada millions. Danielle Matchett is seeking specified damages of $350,000 for injuries she suffered during the camp at Canada Olympic Park 18 months ago. But Matchett's claim is also asking for an unspecified sum for loss of income and earning capacity, which could see that figure balloon.

Staley announces upcoming events in Foley, Alabama

PA B.A.S.S. Nation State Tournament headed for Erie

The Erie Sports Commission announced that PA B.A.S.S. Nation will hold the second of three state-qualifier bass tournaments on Saturday, June 27 and Sunday, June 28 on Presque Isle Bay. Event organizers expect approximately 125 of Pennsylvania's top competitive anglers to compete in the event, which will also draw fishing vendors from around the state.
