Green Bay, Wis., to host first USBC Championship Series
United States Bowling Congress
Green Bay, Wis., will be the prime destination for competitive bowling in the summer of 2015 as host of a new multiweek United States Bowling Congress event series. USBC, in cooperation with the Greater Green Bay Convention and Visitors Bureau, will bring six separate events to Green Bay in 2015 branded together as the new USBC Championship Series.

Austin, Texas, chosen to host ESPN Summer X Games

Sports broadcaster ESPN announced that Austin, Texas — and not Detroit — will host the Summer X Games for four consecutive years beginning in 2014. The other two finalists were Chicago and Charlotte, N.C. Detroit's bid was for three consecutive summer games. The Summer X Games is seen as the unofficial Olympics of extreme action sports with competitions in skateboarding, BMX biking, Rallycross and motocross.

Raiders contemplating new, 50,000-seat stadium

In hopes of avoiding TV blackouts, the Oakland Raiders are reducing capacity at O.co Coliseum to about 53,000, the lowest number in the league by a large margin. The new stadium that the franchise is seeking might be even smaller. The Oakland Tribune reports that a study commissioned by the Raiders found that a 50,000-seat stadium (with 6,000 club seats) on the current field site, built at the cost of $800 million, would be viable.

Boiseans will be honored for visiting every MLB stadium

There won't be any baseball greats inducted into their hall of fame later this month in Cooperstown, N.Y., but a Boise couple will. Don and Jody Mummert will be inducted into the Sports Travel and Tours Baseball Stadium Hall of Fame on July 27 at the National Baseball Hall of Fame for having seen a Major League Baseball game at all 30 home ballparks. The pair has shared a love for baseball for more than 55 years, but began their stadium quest in earnest in 2002 in Baltimore, finishing their tour of every home park last summer in Arizona — after driving through California and catching games there, too, of course.

Lions to host new bowl game at Ford Field

A new bowl game is coming to Ford Field, and it will be hosted by the Detroit Lions. The Lions made the official announcement, and they revealed that this new game will begin play in 2014. The Lions also revealed that they have agreed to a six-year partnership with the Big Ten for the bowl game, meaning a team from that conference will annually play at Ford Field in December.

The Nationals want to host a future all-star game in Washington
The Washington Post
Twenty-six cities have hosted the all-star game since RFK Stadium hosted it two generations ago. The Nationals and the District would like that to change, and they expect it will. They have been waiting since Nationals Park opened in 2008 to bring the Midsummer Classic to the nation's capital. The Nationals have petitioned the commissioner's office and the city has planned for the showcase eventually to come.
