US lineup announced for 2013 US International Figure Skating Classic
US Figure Skating
U.S. Figure Skating announced the U.S. entries for the 2013 U.S. International Figure Skating Classic, scheduled for Sept. 11-15 in Salt Lake City. The international senior competition, in its second year, will feature more than 70 athletes representing nearly 20 countries. Several members of Team USA will begin their quests for a spot on the 2014 U.S. Olympic Figure Skating Team at this event. Meryl Davis and Charlie White, the five-time reigning U.S. champions and 2013 World Ice Dance Champions, headline Team USA.

St. Petersburg/Clearwater Sports Commission
The St. Petersburg/Clearwater Sports Commission welcomes Matt Prewitt to their team as Sports Sales Manager. Prewitt joins the organization after 17 months as a college intern and part time staff member at the sports commission. Matt is a graduate of Kentucky Christian University, where he majored Business and Biblical Studies and was also a starting member of the football team.

"We are excited to have Matt on board and look forward to him representing our destination," said Kevin Smith, Director of the St. Petersburg/Clearwater Sports Commission. "His knowledge and enthusiasm for both sports and the St. Pete/Clearwater area will make him a great addition to our team." In his role as Sports Sales Manager, Prewitt will be a part of the ongoing promotion and development of the St. Petersburg/Clearwater area as a world-class sports tourism destination.

The St. Petersburg/Clearwater Sports Commission is a division of Visit St. Pete Clearwater and is the official sports marketing and management organization for the St. Petersburg/Clearwater area, the most-visited destination on the Gulf of Mexico in the U.S. Its mission is to generate a positive economic impact for the St. Petersburg/Clearwater area, its cities and businesses through sports tourism.

Sports bringing big bucks to Bucks County, Pa.

Hosting large-scale youth sports tournaments is increasingly being looked at by counties as a way to score some extra dollars for their local economies. Nowhere is that more true than Bucks County, which is hosting three major sports tournaments this month that are expected to bring more than 22,000 participants and spectators to the county — and generate more than 7,000 hotel visits.

Youth soccer tournament brings with it huge economic impact

"We get teams from all over the country," Overland Park Soccer Complex Operations Manager Mike LaPlante said. UMaine to host IceBreaker hockey tournament in Portland in 2015-2016

The Ice Breaker Tournament is a traditional opener for the college hockey season. It is usually held the first or second week in October. The University of Maine will host the 2015-16 Ice Breaker Tournament at the renovated Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland. It will be a four team tournament. "We're very excited," said University of Maine athletic director Steve Abbott. "This is such a great opportunity to showcase the state, Maine athletics and the University of Maine all at once."

In 2009, after the financial crisis had given way to the Great Recession, the Dallas Cowboys settled on a straightforward and not particularly lucrative name for the team’s lavish new home: Cowboys Stadium. Four years after opening the $1.2 billion, 80,000-capacity monster in Arlington, Texas, it appears that Jones may have at last found a time and a suitor to his liking. Multiple outlets have reported that the Cowboys are in advanced negotiations with AT&T over a deal to rename the stadium.

When Robb Heineman took over as chief executive officer of the Major League Soccer franchise in Kansas City, in 2006, the team barely registered even in its local market. Seven years later, Sports Illustrated calls Heineman the "Mark Cuban of MLS." His team, now called Sporting Kansas City, has a waiting list for its 14,000 season tickets and has sold out 27 games in a row, packing an average of 19,709 people into a new stadium that seats 18,467.

Amarillo, Texas, to host televised Champions Challenge pro rodeo event

Amarillo, Texas, will be one of four cities across the country to host the Wrangler Champions Challenge, a new Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association event that will draw 10 of the sport's best riders, Mayor Paul Harpole announced. The Great American Country channel will broadcast the event, Muirheid said. "We're going to get the exposure of our town across the country, and our hospitality is going to show across the country," Harpole said.

Mankato to host Vikings training camp through 2015

The Minnesota Vikings will get to spend a 50th anniversary in Mankato, Minn. The Vikings and Minnesota State University agreed to host the training camp on campus for three more years. The agreement runs through the 2015 season, which will be the 50th year the camp has been held in Mankato.
