50th NFL Super Bowl, at 49ers' new stadium, gets local CEO

A local sports marketing executive has been tapped to lead the day-to-day operations for planning the 50th Super Bowl. Keith Bruce, most recently the president of San Rafael-based SportsMark Management Group, will take over as the first CEO of the Bay Area Super Bowl Host Committee.

Nickelodeon, the leading youth entertainment company in the world, has announced plans to celebrate its 10th annual Worldwide Day of Play. For the first time ever, USA BMX will be one of the featured participating organizations. The WWDoP is a health and wellness initiative with a signature event on the Nethermead in Brooklyn's Prospect Park on Saturday, Sept. 21.

Mud Run leaves a mess behind
Pocono Record
The producers of the Great American Mud Run have taken the money and run from participants in Pennsylvania and other states. The Great American Mud Run, a 5K with challenging obstacles, was to be held at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond on Sept. 28. With the registration price increasing as the race date neared, the most recent price was $79. The event was canceled with no explanation and no refunds.

USC takes control of LA Coliseum, renovations coming

The USC Trojans have finally gained full control of the Los Angeles Coliseum, their home stadium since 1923. It took years to get to this point but the Coliseum is now USC's to manage and the school intends to restore the historic venue. The agreement in place grants the control to USC for the next 98 years and will have the school move forward on plans to improve the stadium costing up to $100 million.

USOC Head Larry Probst becomes 4th US IOC member

In a twin boost for American influence in the international sports world, USOC chairman Larry Probst joined the IOC and Anita DeFrantz was elevated to the Olympic body's powerful executive board. The elections reflected the improved standing of the U.S. in the International Olympic Committee after years of strained relations, and gave further impetus to a potential American bid for the 2024 Summer Games.

US MNT qualifies for 2014 World Cup in Brazil with 2-0 victory against Mexico at sold-out Columbus Crew Stadium

In front of a raucous capacity crowd of 24,584 at Columbus Crew Stadium, the U.S. Men's National Team defeated Mexico 2-0 in 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifying to earn its berth to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. USA vs. Mexico, presented by AT&T, was billed as the most anticipated match of the Hexagonal, and the U.S. did not disappoint. For the fourth-consecutive time during a World Cup Qualifying cycle, the USA defeated Mexico 2-0 at Crew Stadium.

Kris Ekeren named USA Fencing interim executive director

USA Fencing is pleased to announce that Kris Ekeren has been named the organization's interim executive director. Ekeren was selected for the role by the USA Fencing Board of Directors after more than two years with the National Governing Body for the sport of fencing. Ekeren joined USA Fencing in 2011 as the director of membership services and was promoted to senior director of membership and administration in January of this year.
