New bowling tournament features traditional rules
Erie Sports Commission
The Erie Sports Commission is announced that the inaugural Chuga's Tournament will be held at Rolling Meadow Lanes on Dec. 6-7. The tournament was created by local professional bowler Michael Machuga, who will also serve as the tournament director for the event. The tournament will aim to follow more traditional bowling rules, allowing only plastic balls to be thrown on a challenging lane pattern

Dallas Convention & Visitors Bureau
Phillip J. Jones, president and CEO of the Dallas Convention & Visitors Bureau announced the sports marketing department of the Dallas CVB has transitioned into the Dallas Sports Commission. The Dallas Sports Commission will build upon the solid foundation of past events of the sports marketing department of the Dallas CVB. In the past six years, the Dallas CVB sports marketing department has hosted over 200 events with a total economic impact of $1.039 billion.

Indiana city approves $53 million for soccer arena
The Indianapolis Star
Indiana's Westfield City Council approved a controversial funding plan for an indoor soccer arena with a 6-1 vote. South Bend, Indiana-based Holladay Properties will build and open the facility by Nov. 1, 2015. Westfield agreed to pay back the loan and operating expenses at the facility during the next 25 years, costing nearly $53 million with interest.

Foutch Brothers drops plan to remake Kemper Arena for youth sports

A development company that had proposed saving Kansas City's Kemper Arena and retooling it as a regional youth sports facility has withdrawn its plan. Foutch Brothers announced that it would no longer pursue its Kemper redevelopment plan.

Girls hockey tourney in New York could generate $2.4 million

The upcoming Fire on Ice girls hockey tournament in Brighton, New York, includes 169 teams that could generate $2.4 million in economic activity, officials announced. The four-day tourney begins at Bill Gray's Regional Iceplex on the campus of Monroe Community College and at other local rinks. The field includes 145 teams from beyond the Rochester area, from 15 states and Washington, D.C., officials said.

Louisiana voters kill tax that would benefit Independence Bowl
The Times
The airport and area sports scene were delivered gutting losses as a 2-percent hotel occupancy tax for Louisiana's Caddo and Bossier parishes failed to pass by 208 votes (49,148-48,940). The tax, which would have gone into effect Dec. 1, was to benefit the Ark-La-Tex Regional Air Service Alliance, the Independence Bowl Foundation and the Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission.

National Cheer and Dance Championships set for April
Erie Sports Commission
The Erie Sports Commission announced a cheer and dance national championship will be held at the Erie Insurance Arena in 2015. The Splash into Spring Lake Erie National Cheer and Dance Championships will be held on Sunday, April 12, 2015. Three full paid bids to the U.S. Finals will be awarded at the meet.

DePaul arena construction contract: What's the delay?

Nearly two months after the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority intended to award a construction contract for a 10,000-seat, $173 million arena on Chicago's South Side, a winner is yet to be named. While McPier, the city-state agency that oversees McCormick Place and Navy Pier, still wants to put shovels in the ground early next year, a dozen construction bidders are patiently awaiting a vote from the agency's board to get the ball rolling on what is expected to be a 22-month project.
