Philly Insider Tip of the Week "For cheesesteaks, there are two places I would go: there’s Abner's Cheesesteaks of University City, right by Drexel University, and then Larry’s Steaks, Philadelphia Home of
the Belly Filler. If you can eat a Belly Filler it’s free. No one can eat a Belly Filler. My best advice about cheesesteaks? Already know what you want to order before you get to the counter, or everyone will know you're not a local." -2010 Johnson & Johnson Keynote speaker Kevin Carroll, AT Ret.

One of the Most Dangerous Sports of All: Cheerleading
from
The Newark Star-Ledger
Share

Two years ago,
as a junior at West Milford High School in Passaic County, Alexa McCormack suffered a concussion that knocked her unconscious and split her eardrum. It was one of three concussions she sustained during the last 18 months of her career as a cheerleader. McCormack's injuries are hardly unusual in cheerleading, which, according to a study released last year by the National Center for Catastrophic Sports Injury Research, accounts for 65.1 percent of all catastrophic sports injuries female athletes

Running Shoes May Cause Damage to Knees, Hips and Ankles, New Study Suggests
from
Science Daily
Share

Knee osteoarthritis accounts for more disability in the elderly than any other disease. Running, although it has proven cardiovascular and other health benefits,
can increase stresses on the joints of the leg. In a recent study, researchers compared the effects on knee, hip and ankle joint motions of running barefoot versus running in modern running shoes. Other States,
NFL Have Tougher Concussion Rules Than California
from
The San Jose Mercury News
Share

In Washington state, a new law requires a doctor's clearance before youth athletes who suffer a
suspected concussion can resume play. In Oregon, a new law mandates annual concussion training for coaches. School sports officials there keep players who suffer such head injuries off the field for the rest of the day and mandate a medical evaluation before they return. Similar rules now apply to pro football players. But concussion regulations are looser in California, where a blow to the head during a Thanksgiving Day football game nearly killed a San Jose High Academy player.
