2012 Opening Day Reception: Move to the Music

The 2012 Annual Meeting in St. Louis will hit a high note with an Opening Day Reception at 7:30 p.m. on June 27 where attendees will be encouraged to move to the music! While listening to local cover band Plastic, you can try your hand at baseball, football and hockey interactive games. We'll even have bocce alleys! Bring your camera and take a photo with a beautiful Budweiser Clydesdale horse. Entertain your children with the petting zoo and bounce houses. Dessert and non-alcoholic drinks will be provided, and cash bars serving beer and wine will be available for those over 21. The event will be in the Edward Jones Dome (Hall 6) at the America's Center Convention Complex. More

Coming Up: ACL Avulsion and Tibial Spine Fracture Webinar

Shital N. Parikh, MD, FACS, a pediatric orthopaedic surgeon at Cincinnati Children's Hospital, is presenting "ACL Avulsion and Tibial Spine Fracture in Young Athletes" at 11 a.m. CT on May 9. Parikh will discuss the mechanism of injury, physical examination, diagnosis and management of Tibial Spine Fractures, and he will go over potential pitfalls in managing this fracture that could translate into a career-ending injury for the athlete. The cost is $15 for NATA members, and it is worth one CEU.

With names like Jack3d and OxyElite Pro, these products have been popular with athletes because they contain an ingredient, known as dimethylamylamine or DMAA, advertised to increase energy, concentration and metabolism.

Only 42 percent of high schools in the country have access to a certified athletic trainer, according to the NATA. And that's despite the fact that nearly 7.7 million student-athletes compete in athletics, according to statistics maintained by the National Federation of State High School Associations. "Athletic trainers are the first line of defense on the fields," said Red Bank Regional athletic trainer Christina Emrich. "They save lives."
