Painkillers Blamed in Death of Oklahoma Linebacker

The death of a University of Oklahoma football player was caused by
multiple drugs in his system — including five different painkillers — at the time of death nearly two months ago, according to the state's toxicology report released last week. Austin Box, 22, was found unconscious and not breathing in an El Reno, Oklahoma, home May 19, according to a 911 tape released by CNN affiliate KWTV.

Vitamin D deficiency has been known to cause an assortment of health problems, a recent study being presented at the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine's Annual Meeting in San Diego, suggests that lack of the vitamin might also increase the chance of muscle injuries in athletes, specifically NFL football players.

New scientific experiments can be inspired by a simple question, and in the case of John Mercer, that question was, "So, John, do toning shoes work?" Dr. Mercer, a professor of biomechanics at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, was talking with a friend who runs an athletic shoe store. The friend told him that customers were coming
in and requesting toning shoes, which are soft sneakers, often with a rocker-shaped sole, that promise to exercise and tighten muscles in the calves, thighs and buttocks.
