Tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m. (Eastern), Tamara McLeod, PhD, ATC, CSCS will deliver a webinar on "Pediatric Sports Overuse Injuries." Recent statistics suggest that
50 million U.S. kids ages 5-18 are participating in organized sports. While the numbers are encouraging in the wake of a youth obesity epidemic, they correlate with a high rate of overuse injury - particularly in today's ultra-competitive environment of early sports specialization and lengthier practice and game seasons.

Sudden Cardiac Death Can Strike Young
from
Palm Beach Post

Terry Salina is frustrated that information about hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, which claimed the life of her 13-year-old
daughter, isn't more widespread. It's been 21 years since Loyola Marymount University basketball star Hank Gathers became an unwitting poster child for the disease after he collapsed and died during a game. It rocketed back into the news earlier this year when Michigan high school basketball player Wes Leonard collapsed and died minutes after shooting a game-winning point.

"The answer," said Dr. Stuart J. Warden, an associate professor of physical therapy at Indiana University,
"is that it probably does both."

More Money Needed for Migraine Research, Say Headache
Experts
from
Orlando Sentinel
Share

Migraines affect more Americans than diabetes and asthma combined, but funding for migraine research is low. Without an infusion of research dollars, researchers say, it will be hard to conquer migraines. Migraine specialists attending the American Headache Society meeting in Washington said they believe more government money for migraine research holds the most promise for winning the
battle against the disease.
