With 41 applicants vying for only a few coveted positions, the selection committee was challenged in selecting members of the NATS Intern Program as they narrowed an excellent field of applicants to twelve interns comprising the class of 2012. The class includes teachers who primarily teach in university settings as well as those whose focus is the independent studio.

Tom Torlakson, the California state superintendent of education, will convene the first of several meetings in Coronado, Calif., to talk about "how the arts and creative education can transform California classrooms." He also plans to produce a new publication called "A Blueprint for Creative Schools."
Just as important, the California Legislative Joint Committee on the Arts will hold hearings on SB 789, legislation that will require the governor to develop a creativity index, which in turn would be used to measure creativity in public schools statewide.

Aging baby boomers have long used exercise, surgery and collagen as they try to slow the natural bodily processes of aging.
Now, some are flocking to do the same with something that's usually a dead giveaway: a voice that sounds old. Research shows that older peoples' voices often develop breathiness, weakness and loss of range or quality from causes that include disease, changed use of their voices and the condition called presbylaryngis, also known as "aging of the larynx."
