Flames Tie with Vanderbilt in State Duals

The Lee Flames competed in the 2nd Annual NCWA Tennessee State Duals on Feb. 21. The Flames went winless on the day and ended their last match with a tie against Vanderbilt University. Lee opened up their first round against Austin Peay State University and lost 18-17. MoreMore

No Surprises at D-III Regionals

Delaware Valley College, ranked second in Division III, ran away from the competition at the NCAA Midwest Regional as the Aggies captured their third straight team title. Individually, five wrestlers won individual champions and one earned a wild-card berth, giving Delaware Valley six qualifiers for the upcoming NCAA Division III Championships. More

University of New Haven Defeats Yale 34-10

The New Haven Chargers hosted the Bulldogs of Yale on Feb. 19. The Charger grapplers came away with a great victory with a 34-10 win over the bulldogs. More

College Wrestling Gets First Glimpse into RPI Rankings

No matter which sport you root for, you pretty much can't escape the RPI. Add college wrestling to the list. For the first time, the RPI (rating percentage index) will be one of the determining factors on who qualifies for the NCAA Championships in March in Saint Louis. Under the new qualifying standards, a wrestler’s winning percentage, rankings from a panel of coaches, and the RPI make up the determining factors as to whether a wrestler obtains a qualifying spot for his conference. Mott Bears Capture Toledo Duals

The Mott Community College "Wrestling Bears" captured the University of Toledo Duals on Feb 15. The Toledo Duals featured five nationally ranked teams including: Oakland, Bowling Green, University of Ohio, Ohio State and University of Dayton. More

Grappling with Success

College wrestling coaches from some of the top programs in the nation have found a prime proving ground for recruits in Western Pennsylvania. They like the toughened mentality and tireless work ethic of athletes from local coal towns, steel towns and farming communities. Currently, there are more than 75 wrestlers with WPIAL roots on Division I college rosters and many more wrestling at the small college level. Pitt and West Virginia each have nine. More

Mavs Finish Dual Season 13-0

The top-ranked University of Nebraska at Omaha wrestling topped the University of Central Missouri 39-6 in the third and final match of the 2009 MIAA duals Sunday afternoon. The Mavericks won the three duals by a combined score of 121-18. The win marks just the third time in school history UNO has finished the season with an undefeated record in duals. The Mavericks also went undefeated in the 1969-70 (14-0) and 2005-06 (10-0) seasons. In both those years UNO captured the National Championship. More
