Wrestling Legend Sanderson Heading to Penn State

Cael Sanderson, perfect as a wrestler at Iowa State, Olympic champion in 2004 and a winning coach at his alma mater the past three seasons, is leaving to coach at Penn State. The move, which took the college wrestling world by surprise, was confirmed on the Penn State website by the Nittany Lions' director of athletics Tim Curley. Kilgore is Driving the Kent State Wrestling Team to New Levels

Dustin Kilgore isn't used to losing. Nearly a month has gone by since the final seconds of the redshirt freshman's All-American title run dwindled away in St. Louis at the NCAA Wrestling Championships. Exiting the national tournament as its fifth-seeded 184-pounder, Kilgore said his sixth loss of a 33-win season will motivate him as he prepares for next season. More

Minn. All-American Named Calumet Wrestling Coach

Former Indiana high school champion and University of Minnesota All-American Leroy Vega has been named wrestling coach at Calumet College. It's the first college head coaching job for the 30-year-old Vega, who was an assistant at Minnesota for two years and then ran his own wrestling club in his hometown of Portage, Ind.

The Recession Can't Keep College Wrestling Down

While the current recession may putting some college and professional sports in a serious predicament, generally speaking, the troubled economy hasn’t put college wrestling’s shoulders to the mat just yet. Sure, some college programs have been axed; most recently, Carson-Newman College in Tennessee announced this was the last season for its wrestling program. Yet, in the same week Carson-Newman shucked its wrestling program, Tiffin University in Ohio announced it was establishing an intercollegiate wrestling team.
