Lawlor Defeats Dollaway in The Ultimate Fighter 8 Finale

Tom Lawlor, one of the few four-time national champions in NCWA history, made national news at the UFC: The Ultimate Fighter 8 Finale. Lawlor, the most prominent wrestler in Central Florida’s long NCWA history, beat former NCAA champion C.B. Dollaway in the featured middleweight bout before a record UFC pay-per-view audience.

Eslinger Named New Head Coach of Mocs Wrestling

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga wrestling is THE premier program in the region and has the tradition and following that is comparable to any other in the country. When the head coaching position became available in June, following Chris Bono’s resignation, UTC’s Director of Athletics Rick Hart knew that all of the aforementioned accolades would attract attention from top-quality candidates from all over the country. After the intensive national search was finished, it was clear to Hart that the man for the job was right here in the Mocs’ backyard. Hart introduced UTC alumni and former wrestler Heath Eslinger as the 11th head coach of the Chattanooga Mocs Wrestling program.

Frayer Added to UW Wrestling Coaching Staff

Jared Frayer, a two-time All-American at Oklahoma, will join the Badger wrestling program as an assistant coach, head coach Barry Davis announced. The hiring of Frayer rounds out Davis’s coaching staff for the 2009-10 season. He joins associate head coach Donny Pritzlaff and volunteer assistant coach Cory Wallman on Davis’s staff. More
Varner Named Iowa State’s Male Athlete of the Year

When Jake Varner won the 197-pound match at this spring’s NCAA meet, he became the 65th Cyclone to wear the title of NCAA wrestling champion. He became the 22nd wrestler named Iowa State’s male athlete of the year. Varner finished his standout junior season with a 31-2 record. His 2-1 win against Nebraska’s Craig Brester in the NCAA championship match pushed his stellar season over the top. More
Waller Moves to Lock Haven

Mt. Pleasant graduate Robbie Waller has been named associate head wrestling coach at Lock Haven Univeristy. Waller, a 1998 Mt. Pleasant graduate, was a PIAA Class AAA champion during his senior season. He attended the University of Oklahoma where he won an NCAA Division I title, was a four-time NCAA qualifier and an All-American in 2002. He graduated from Oklahoma in 2003. More
