NCWA announces national championships location

NCWA is proud to announce that its 2012 National Collegiate Wrestling Championships will be held March 8-10 in beautiful Daytona Beach, Fla. This three-day, six-session event was moved from Mercer University in Macon, Ga., due to facility scheduling conflicts. After a thorough search, the NCWA chose Daytona Beach as Host City for this 15th annual event.More

Nebraska wrestlers digging new digs at Hendricks Complex

The highlight of Nebraska's new $2 million wrestling facility in the Hendricks Training Complex isn't the 65-inch flat screens or black leather couches or custom-built wood lockers. It's the showers. In the past, when the 40 wrestlers and coaches hit the showers after practice, they had to wait to use the six shower heads—four of which actually worked. The water got a foot deep after about 20 minutes. Now they have 15 shower heads—and no waiting lines. More

Spruill takes first as Builders tangle in VMI Open

Junior Kyle Spruill topped four Apprentice School wrestlers in the top three by winning the 149-pound bracket at the VMI Rat Open held Saturday at Cocke Hall on the Virginia Military Institute campus. Spruill went 3-0 to win his bracket, while sophomore Ty Ford was 1-1 to finish second at 125 pounds. More

Cyclones looking for 'breakout' year

A year removed from a 9-10 dual record and a 20th-place finish at the NCAA Tournament, Kevin Jackson said he is looking for a "breakout" year. The third-year coach of the ISU wrestling team lauded the positives of his team's chances of competing at a higher level than last year's "reloading" philosophy that was taken in the wake of a wave of departed talent. Virginia Tech dominates at Hokie Open

Members of the Virginia Tech wrestling squad, along with just under 300 other wrestlers from more than 20 college teams, took to the mats at the Hokie Open Sunday at the Salem Civic Center with numerous Hokies placing in their respective weight class. Five Hokies won their weight divis! ion while one placed second and two others finished third. More

Sanderson, Penn State prepare for an encore

Much has happened at Penn State since March, when the Nittany Lions won the school's first NCAA wrestling championship since 1953. For starters, how about the good? Coach Cael Sanderson, an Olympic gold medalist, stepped back onto the mat after a seven-year hiatus. The coach won regional and U.S. titles and finished fifth at the world championships. More
