UT-Arlington Crown Five at the Southwest Open & Win Team Title

The UT-Arlington Maverick wrestling team crowned five of a possible eleven champions at the Southwest Open. Joshua Beck (125 pounds), David Barringer (157 pounds), Caleb Alexander (184 pounds), Devin Compton (235 pounds) and Bryson Rayford-Fowler (285 pounds) all emerged as the best at their weight classes. Lakers Wrestle Tough at EMU Open & MSU Open

To kick off the official season Grand Valley sent wrestlers to the Eastern Michigan University. Each wrestler had tough matches against the likes of DI, II and III wrestlers. Overall Grand Valley had 3 placers. Joe Kuzmicz bumped up to wrestle at the 285lbs weight class and took third losing a close match in the semifinals in the 3rd overtime 4-2. Other placers included Derek Marshall (184lbs) 5th and TJ Sobeck (133lbs) 5th. TJ made an impressive outing after losing his opening match and then fighting back and revenging the loss against John Herbert (MSU) in his final match 11-4. More

Indiana's Kurt Kinser Races to Fast Start on Wrestling Mat

Kurt Kinser, an NCAA qualifier last season, is off to a fast start this season for the Hoosiers at 157 pounds. He won the Michigan State Open and he is ranked No. 9 nationally by InterMat. Kinser was named Big Ten Wrestler of the Week after winning the Michigan State Open. He downed No. 8 Matt Moley of Bloomsburg 3-2 in the semifinals before pinning Northwestern’s Jason Welch in just 56 seconds in the finals. More

New Gallaudet at UMBC Retriever Invitational Duals

The Bison wrestling team started their 2008-2009 season with just one week of practice, after being reestablished as an NCWA team, almost four years after their last match. They opened in the Retriever Invitational Duals at University of Maryland / Baltimore Country, on November 16 and came away 0-4 as a team, but several individual wrestlers did very well and showed how bright the future is for Gallaudet wrestling. More

Oakland Kicks off Season at Flyer Open

The Oakland University Wrestling Team has begun their competitive season. They started out with some pre-season open tournaments at Eastern Michigan and Michigan State University. Overall, these tournaments served as a great learning experience to the wrestlers that attended. More

Illinois, Wisconsin, and MSU Dominate Big Ten Meet

No. 9 Illinois opened the dual season with three convincing wins at the ACC/Big Ten Clash, defeating No. 21 Virginia, 39-7, North Carolina State, 40-7, and North Carolina, 26-9, as the ninth-ranked Illini, No. 12 Wisconsin and Michigan State all won their three matches against that trio of ACC foes at Eddie Smith Field House. No. 6 John Wise put forth an award-winning performance, posting a pair of pins in a combined 2:49 and defeating the Tar Heels' No. 13 Justin Dobies, 3-2, to finish off the successful day. More

Lee University Drops Dual to Tennessee Temple

The Flames dropped their first home dual meet of the season by a close score of 33-27 to the No. 2 ranked NCWA team, Tennessee Temple University. Joe Jellison (133), Ryan McDermott (149), and Chris Jones (197) each posted a pin for the Flames while Matt Spies (165) and Tad Shelton (235) also contributed wins for the team. More

Maryland Receives 4 Titles at ESU

No. 2 Hudson Taylor and Mike Letts both took home individual championships at the East Stroudsburg Open at East Stroudsburg University while Jon Kohler took third place at 141 pounds and Patrick Gilmore finished fourth in the heavyweight division. No team scores were kept, but overall it was a good day for the Maryland wrestling team. More
