For the first time ever, the National Collegiate Wrestling Association recognized its student-athletes with an All-Academic team and three Apprentice School wrestlers made the 147-person list. Junior Ricky Anderson, sophomore Stuart Roes and freshman Willy Crawford were recognized on the NCWA All-Academic team for having a greater than 3.0 grade point average for the 2010-11 wrestling season. To be recognized you had to have at least a 3.0 grade point average and be a NCWA All-American or a 3.25 grade point average and a national qualifier. This time will be different. That's the mantra the Ohio State wrestling staff is living by as it welcomes the nation's top-ranked recruiting class to Columbus. Five recruits ranked in the top 33, according to InterMat wrestle.com, arrived for summer classes and voluntary offseason workouts. This is the second ballyhooed group that coach Tom Ryan has recruited in his five seasons. The 2007 class was also ranked No. 1, but it didn't live up to expectations. Air Force wrestling head coach Joel Sharratt recently announced the arrival of the Class of 2015. This year's incoming freshman class features 11 wrestlers, including four entries from the Academy Prep School. Featured in the group are four high school state champions and an NCWA All-American. "We are excited to welcome all our incoming cadet wrestlers in the class of 2015," said Sharratt. "These guys bring in a wealth of talent and accolades that together combine for 27 state placing honors and nine athletes who have more than 100 high school victories in their prep career." Josh Keszler has been wrestling since he was in the fourth grade. He has experienced success nearly every step of the way, winning three individual state titles and helping the Sturgis Scoopers set the state record in points on their way to the team title in 2010. With a career-best fourth-place finish at the 2011 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, Trevor Brandvold completed his collegiate career at the University of Wisconsin in March. He now moves to the next stage of his life and, fortunately for him, he's doing it in a familiar place. For Tyler Caldwell, the past three months have been a whirlwind of changes. The changes haven't stopped coming, and the newest Husker wrestler wouldn't have it any other way...even if it means he won't compete for Nebraska until the fall of 2012. The transfer from Oklahoma—the NCAA national runner-up at 165 pounds to Nebraska's Jordan Burroughs this past March—is planning to postpone the start of his junior year of college in hopes of improving his freestyle acumen for a possible run at the 2012 or 2016 Summer Olympics.
