Global construction is likely to continue building upon its recovery in 2011

This past year brought significant improvements for construction equipment manufacturers. In 2009, global demand declined significantly, especially in developed markets, and manufacturers under-produced to lower inventory levels. This resulted in dramatic declines in sales and profitability, causing credit measures to deteriorate rapidly for rated issuers. EPA says new tool will encourage use of safer chemicals and products

The Environmental Protection Agency has announced new criteria to help businesses and other entities identify safer chemicals. The move is part of EPA's Design for the Environment (DfE) program. DfE works in partnership with industry, environmental groups and academia to help industry choose safer alternatives to chemicals that may pose a concern to human health or the environment. More

Mirage extends value room rate for 38th Annual Convention

The Mirage's $139 - $199 a night room rate for the National Demolition Association's 38th Annual Convention at The Mirage in Las Vegas March 5-8 has been extended until Feb. 1, which is the deadline for registrations for this year's show. This means that you need to make plans now to register for the NDA's Annual Convention, the largest exposition of demolition equipment and services in the world. This year's convention will feature three leading magician/illusionists at our Monday Night Theme Party, our raffle for a 2011 Harley Davidson motorcycle, sessions on refrigerant recovery, personal protective equipment for demolition workers, insurance and use of the Association's website to market your company.

Analysis: Can green construction beat the building blues?

After a 2-year slump in the construction market, U.S. building materials firms hope a trend to so-called green or energy efficient — building will steer them back to growth. Association to host Demolition Industry Roundtable at Annual Convention

NDA President Ray Passeno from Bierlein, Inc. in Midland, Mich., will be hosting a Demolition Industry Roundtable at the Association's 38th Annual Convention to discuss industry and Association issues at 9 a.m.-10:30 a.m. PST March 8. The goal of this important session is to identify those issues of concern for the Association's members. Information gathered at this session will assist the 2011-2012 board of directors to plan for the future.

NDA By Laws to be updated

Forty days prior to the NDA's Annual Meeting on March 8 at The Mirage in Las Vegas, proxies and a draft copy of the proposed revisions to the Association's By Laws will be forwarded to every Regular member of the organization. The goal of the proposed revisions is to update the Association's By Laws to make it more responsive to the needs of all of its members. Elements include changes to the membership criteria, an Associate member seat on the board of directors and provisions to allow for use of electronic communication for any future Association legal issues.

Those members who will be unable to attend the March 8 Annual Meeting at The Mirage in Las Vegas can submit their proxy to the Association's secretary by faxing it back to Association headquarters in Doylestown, Pa. Possible plans to demolish UK's 2012 Olympic stadium after games

The architect working on football club Tottenham Hotspur's plans for a new stadium has revealed it would demolish the Olympic stadium in London if it won the bid to take it on after the 2012 games. KSS Design Group's David Keirle said most of the Populous - designed structure - which is close to completion and was specifically designed to be used again - would be replaced because it was not suitable for football with most of the seats too far from the pitch. National Demolition Association Executive Director Mike Taylor will be speaking at the Environmental Business Council of New England's Fifth Annual Construction and Demolition Materials Regional Summit Jan. 21 at the Sheraton in Framingham, Mass. The Association, as part of an ongoing member outreach effort, will be hosting a dinner for all of its New England states–members Jan. 20. NDA President Ray Passeno and Treasurer Peter Banks will also attend.
