NDA returns to Opryland

The NDA will be returning to the site of one of its most successful conventions, Gaylord's Opryland Resort in Nashville, Tenn., for its 42nd Annual Convention, March 21-25, 2015. One of the nation's premier convention destination Gaylord's Opryland has over 3,100 rooms, a massive glass-enclosed atrium with shops and restaurants, and a terrific convention center for the world's largest exhibition of demolition products, equipments and services. The NDA plans to utilize Gaylord's steamboat, the General Jackson, for its Opening Night Celebration on March 22, 2015. There will also be a major country music concert in Opryland's Presidential Ballroom on March 23. The association's 28th Annual Golf Tournament will be onsite at Opryland's Gaylord Springs course March 21, 2015. Gaylord's Ryman Convention hall will be open March 22, 23 and 24 from 11:30 a.m.-4 p.m. to allow the NDA's Associate members to showcase their products and services to the demolition industry. More

National Demolition Association presented college scholarships to six deserving students at the 39th Annual National Demolition Association Convention in Las Vegas. The NDA has recognized exemplary students with scholarships for more than 10 years. Pittsburgh's Civic Arena project nears completion

The demolition of a unique building in Pittsburgh is nearing its completion, marking the end of more than 50 years of events that totaled more than 7,000. Piece by piece over the last nine months, the Mellon Arena came down. The demolition project, which called for full demolition, abatement and site grading of the arena, began Aug. 8, 2011. Construction sheds 28,000 jobs in May, but jobless rate dips

Construction's May unemployment figures show a tale of two indicators: The industry lost 28,000 jobs in the month, but its jobless rate edged down to 14.2 percent from April's 14.5 percent, the Bureau of Labor Statistics has reported. The total jobs lost in May represent the largest monthly decline in two years, said Ken Simonson, Associated General Contractors chief economist. More

Ohio communities receive $1 million for recycling

Construction materials prices rise moderately in April

The construction industry is finally seeing some relief in building materials inflation. Recent declines in energy prices are leading to lower prices for some materials and slower increases for others. Less than stellar increases in both residential and nonresidential construction activity are also keeping the lid on prices. Among major categories seeing price declines in April besides energy products were iron and steel scrap, gypsum products, extruded aluminum rod, and copper and copper products. More

Report shows small business hiring down

U.S. small businesses added 40,000 new jobs in May, according to a report by payroll processing firm Intuit. That number, however, is a third lower than the number of workers hired in April, with firms also trimming hours for those on their payrolls. According to the Intuit survey — technically the Small Business Revenue Index and the Small Business Employment Index — the average workweek for small business employees shrank by 42 minutes. More
