When global economic factors forced the closure of a venerable textile manufacturing company in Fall River, Mass., the property was purchased to allow the site to be developed into a current, productive use. The former textile complex was comprised of almost 75,000 m2 of buildings dating to 1895. Current reuse is not compatible with the three-story, heavy timber framework and granite walls of the old textile mills, thereby requiring demolition of the buildings in order to recover the underlying land. Costello Dismantling Company, Inc. was selected to perform the demolition work, which started in early January 2009. More

An army of Turkish cranes and bulldozers is at work across the Middle East, Central Asia and Africa, building dams, stadiums and highways in a boom that's helping drive Turkey to record growth and bolstering its efforts to become a regional power broker. A series of fiery flashes and a loud crack sent about 1,200 feet of steel from a Pennsylvania turnpike bridge into the Allegheny River and a plume of thick, black smoke vaulting into the air. Demolition of the bridge happened largely as planned. Crews detonated 200 pounds of explosives, cutting the steel superstructure so that large chunks fell to the river and the small island between Harmar and Plum. Turnpike and construction officials declared it a success. More
