FDA Issues Peanut Safety Guidelines for Foodmakers

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued safety guidelines for companies that use peanut products and said it may seize products that test positive for salmonella bacteria. While heat-sensitive, salmonella bacteria become heat-resistant in high-fat environments such as peanut butter, the FDA guidance advises. More

USDA: U.S. Soybean Stockpile Smallest in Five Years

Record sales to China will result in the smallest U.S. soybean stockpile in five years at 185 million bushels, the government said Wednesday, while ethanol makers will use an additional 100 million bushels of corn. In a monthly update, the Agriculture Department pegged U.S. soybean exports at 1.185 billion bushels this marketing year, up 35 million bushels from its February estimate, "reflecting record sales to China" and smaller exports from drought-hit Argentina.
