New York attorney general expands herbal supplements investigation
The Associated Press via ABC News
Three weeks after ordering four major retailers to pull store-brand herbal supplements off their shelves following DNA tests that found little or none of the listed herbs, New York's attorney general is targeting manufacturers of the popular products. Attorney General Eric Schneiderman sent letters to four manufacturers, in Long Island, California and Utah, demanding detailed ingredient and quality control information on every herbal supplement they sell in New York state. The companies' products include the store-brand supplements Schneiderman ordered off the shelves at Walmart, Walgreen's, Target and GNC stores in New York state.

NPA CEO responds after New York attorney general broadens investigation to dietary supplement manufacturers
Natural Products Association
It is perplexing as to why New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman continues to use resources to address dietary supplement matters, which do not fall within his authority and are already handled by the regulators within the federal government. The attorney general seems more motivated by generating headlines and plaintiff's cases than by protecting the public health.

New dietary guidelines bring back saturated fat, cholesterol; Why experts don't owe an apology for backtracking
Medical Daily
This is science, Dr. Corey Hilmas, senior vice president of scientific and regulatory affairs at the Natural Products Association, told Medical Daily. It takes time for science to evolve and, as my co-worker previously explored, "more often than not, finding links is the best science can do." That's not to say initial guidelines got it completely wrong, though this answer will vary depending on who you're asking. It means we're getting to a point where science and research are more refined and efficient — this is weird to apologize for.
