Policy updated on declaring small amounts of nutrients and dietary ingredients on nutrition labels

The Food and Drug Administration is announcing the availability of a draft guidance for industry entitled "FDA's Policy on Declaring Small Amounts of Nutrients and Dietary Ingredients on Nutrition Labels: Guidance for Industry." The draft guidance, when finalized, will explain to manufacturers of conventional foods and dietary supplements our policy on determining the amount to declare on the nutrition label for certain nutrients and dietary ingredients that are present in a small amount.

FDA outlines when firms do not need to label major food allergens

Manufacturers do not need to label major food allergens if they can prove to FDA prior to distribution that the production process eliminates allergenic proteins from the product or that the allergen is in such a low amount that it does not pose a risk, the agency says in guidance published June 18.

Fatigue, symptom severity may be linked to vitamin D deficiency in patients with fibromyalgia

Patients with fibromyalgia who were deficient in vitamin D were more likely to have higher scores for fatigue and poorer functional scores compared with individuals with fibromyalgia alone or with patients deficient in vitamin D without fibromyalgia, according to findings from a study of patients in Turkey.
