amended its bottled water regulations regarding testing and follow-up testing of source water for coliform organisms. The agency has submitted the a proposed collection of information to OMB for review and clearance. The agency must receive written comments on the collection of information by Nov. 27.

A new national survey of more affluent consumers from strategic marketing communications firm Context Marketing, "Beyond Organic -- How Evolving Consumer Concerns Influence Food Purchases," has found that most respondents are highly concerned about the safety of the food they buy and would pay more for food they believe to be safer or
healthier. The research also found that assurances about what a food doesn’t contain, such as pesticides or antibiotics, matter a great deal to these consumers, along with ethical claims that reinforce quality and safety perceptions.

New evidence is emerging for how important it is for pregnant women to eat good, nutritious food. Expecting mothers who eat vegetables every day seem to have children who are less likely to develop type 1 diabetes, a new study revealed. "This is the first study to show a link between vegetable intake during pregnancy and the risk of the child subsequently developing type 1 diabetes, but more studies of various kinds

Armed with nearly $1 billion in federal grants, wind farm developers installed more capacity and got projects off the drawing board in the third quarter. Yet turbine manufacturers struggled amid excess supply, a trade group reported. The 1,649 megawatts of capacity installed from July through September _ enough to serve the equivalent of 480,000 average households _ was about 18 percent more than the year-ago quarter,
the American Wind Energy Association said.

researchers, who looked at the body mass index of 500,000 Salt Lake County residents and compared those who live within a half-mile of retail food outlets to those who don't. People who have closer food options -- whether supermarkets, restaurants or fast food -- were 10 percent less likely to be obese, they discovered.
