Despite a chorus of objections from some residents, Snellville has green-lighted a business owner's proposal to relocate and build a large pawnshop in this Georgia community. The Snellville City Council, by a 4-2 vote, granted a conditional use permit to Paul Slifko of Hill Top Pawn shop. The permit, a requirement of pawnshops in the city, paves the way for Slifko to build a 5,500-square-foot facility on 2.5 acres. Jan Brewer signed into law a bill making Arizona the third state allowing people to carry a concealed weapon without requiring a permit. Residents in Fort Worth, Texas, opposed to pawnshops in their neighborhoods won a victory at City Hall. The Zoning Commission voted 9-0 against a proposed zoning change that would allow pawnshops to expand, to rebuild or reopen if destroyed in a disaster, or to reopen if closed for two years. But the final word on the debate will come from the City Council, which will decide whether to abide by the commission's vote or overrule it. More
