The newest Roswell City, Ga., Councilwoman, Betty Price, took her seat this month, several weeks ahead of Nancy Diamond, the other first-timer elected the week before. Following the oath of office ceremony, the council got down the routine business. Price voted in concert with her
peers until one of the last matters. The vote was for an ordinance restricting pawnshops from being within 5,000 feet of another one. Price said it seemed rather arbitrary to say no pawnshop could be within almost a mile of another one.

Pawn moratorium changes coming next month in Canton, Miss.

Amendments to a controversial Canton, Miss., business moratorium that has caused widespread confusion are expected to come in December. Alderman Louis Smith, who serves on a four-alderman committee charged with recommending changes to the moratorium, said their recommendations likely will be ready for the mayor and board's first regular meeting in December. Changes are needed because the moratorium, adopted in October, erroneously
implies pawnshops, check-cashing and advance check-cashing establishments, title for cash establishments, liquor stores and nail salons must close.

Officials with a Cheyenne, Wyo., pawnshop say they're doing brisk business with families strapped for cash during the holiday season. Stewart Wolf, the president of Marv's Pawn Shop, says the 40-year-old shop has had more people coming in to buy and sell than ever before. He says people are coming in with gold, cars, guns and jewelry, and others are seeking loans.

Bristol, Conn., pawnshops seek to regain licenses

Three pawnshops in Bristol, Conn., are still not licensed to pawn, but the city's police chief said some have met with him to discuss reinstating their licenses. EZ Money Pawn and CT Pawn, LLC had their
licenses revoked in October, and G & G Pawnbrokers, Inc. had its license revoked in August. While they can remain in business making sales, they’re not allowed to pawn, which means they cannot take items as security for borrowing money.
