To Mow or Not to Mow: How Aquatic Plants Affect Mosquito Numbers
NPMA
Cattails and phragmites (a common reed) are primarily aquatic, invasive plants associated commonly found in water detention basins. Dr. Andrew Mackay, of the University of Illinois, led a research team that investigated the effect that mowing those plants in residential settings and stormwater dry detention basins had on local mosquito populations and potentially, on West Nile virus transmission. Surprisingly, removal of the plants led to significantly higher numbers of the Northern house mosquito (Culex pipiens) in water detention basins and with it, greater risk of West Nile transmission to people in the area.

This paper was published in the most recent volume of the Journal of Ecological Applications under the title, “Cascade of ecological consequences for West Nile virus transmission when aquatic macrophytes invade stormwater habitats."

7 Savvy Ways To Go Beyond Simply Satisfied Customers
LinkedIn
I don’t know about you, but I don’t want satisfied customers. And you shouldn’t either. Customers who are “satisfied” don’t go around telling their friends about you. Customers who are “satisfied” aren’t going to be great references for your company. And they’re certainly not going to go out of their way to help you.
