Thousands of Coloradans use state parks every winter to ice fish, snowmobile or to go cross country skiing. And when the weather gets as cold as it is now, the ice on frozen lakes can get quite thick. But Ed Schlottack, who ice fishes every day, says the ice at Chatfield State Park can be deceiving. "You’ll find 10 inches of ice all over, and then all of a sudden it goes boom and you have one inch," Schlottack said. “There are springs under these ponds.” More

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger recently released his budget summary for 2010-11. His budget proposal includes a new controversial strategy to fund all 278 state parks using revenues from an oil offshore drilling project that may never happen.
