Sheriffs Back Passage of Meth Ingredient Tracking from the North County Times
The California State Sheriffs' Association believes that AB 1455 is critical to the continued effort to reduce methamphetamine production in the state. By mandating an electronic tracking system in retail and pharmacy locations that sell allergy and cold drugs containing pseudoephedrine -- best known as PSE, a prime ingredient in the production of methamphetamine -- law enforcement will have a more effective tool in the fight against meth production in California. Electronic tracking is supported by the National Sheriffs' Association and has been implemented in several states, including Oklahoma, Arkansas and Kentucky.

Sheriffs Upset About Losing Stimulus Money from the Newark Advocate Some county sheriffs in Ohio and across the country have complained that they have been denied federal stimulus funds because they are doing their jobs too well. Similar complaints nationwide have led the National Sheriffs' Association to ask for a change in the federal criteria for distributing the money.

Meth Ring Used Comic Books to Launder Money from CNN Investigators in Colorado say they have broken up a massive methamphetamine ring in the Denver area that distributed pounds of the dangerous drug every week and laundered the profits using collectible comic books. “To launder the money you have to use something that is quick and convenient,” Colorado Attorney General John Suthers said at a news conference. “And in this case, they used classic comic books.” More

Arkansas Police to Try Hybrid Fleet from Officer.com When a thief in a stolen hybrid car smoked lawmen in Crown Victorias during a high-speed chase through Clark County earlier in 2009, Arkadelphia Police Chief Al Harris was impressed. Any questions his officers had about whether hybrids had the guts to be police cars were answered that night, the chief said. This fall, the Arkadelphia Police Department will join the growing number of law enforcement agencies across the country using hybrids when a new fleet of 2010 Toyota Camry Hybrids hits the streets of the southwest Arkansas town.
