NSCAA releases winter and spring high school scholar All-Americans
NSCAA
A total of 19 student-athletes have been named to the 2013 NSCAA Winter/Spring High School Scholar All-America Teams. In addition to their stellar performance in the classroom, these players were also recognized among the best players in their respective states for the 2013 season. To be named an NSCAA Scholar All-American, a high school student must reach an equivalent of a 3.75 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

List of teams advancing to the 2013 NPL Champions Cup nearly complete

The list of teams advancing to the 2013 NPL Champions Cup is nearly complete, with 131 teams having secured their spots at US Club Soccer's league-based national championship competition, scheduled for July 18-22 in suburban Denver. Five spots were clinched on Monday as the Midwest Developmental League Playoffs drew to a close in Waukegan, Ill. College coaches interested in attending the event should use the registration link found on the 2013 NPL Champions Cup Web page.

Region II teams punch tickets to 2013 US Youth Soccer National Championships

US Youth Soccer announced the fourteen champions of the 2013 US Youth Soccer Region II (Midwest) Championships. Regional Champions in the Under-13 through Under-19 age groups now advance to the third and final stage of the quest for the National Championship. These Region II Champions will join the 32 National League qualifying teams and the champions from Region I (East), Region III (South), and Region IV (West) tournaments for the National Championships in Overland Park, Kan., July 23-28.

U-20 team can be a steppingstone for US soccer players

The last time the U.S. made it past the group stage in the U-20 World Cup, it had a roster sprinkled with players — guys such as Jozy Altidore, Michael Bradley, Robbie Rogers and Freddy Adu — who would go on to make a name for themselves on the senior national team. Which is kind of the point of having a U-20 national team, said Tab Ramos, who coached the U.S. in the age-group World Cup in Turkey.

Why Las Vegas doesn't have professional soccer

The two fiercest rivals in Mexican soccer will play at Sam Boyd Stadium in a game that is expected to draw 20,000 fans — and, more importantly, show whether Las Vegas can muster enough enthusiasm to host its own Major League Soccer team. "When these high-profile soccer events come to the city, if soccer fans come out, purchase tickets and fill the stadium, it's another illustration of support for the sport," MLS spokesman Dan Courtemanche said.
