Navistar and City of Chicago Go Green Together from Business Wire When people think of a hybrid vehicle, they usually envision a small gas-sipping passenger car, not a 33,000 lb. medium-duty work truck. That mindset is about to change, now that the City of Chicago has added its first hybrid work truck to its fleet, the International DuraStar Hybrid. As part of this week's Green Truck Summit, held in conjunction with the 45th Annual National Truck Equipment Association (NTEA) Convention and the Work Truck Show 2009, representatives from Navistar officially presented the keys to an International DuraStar Hybrid to Howard Henneman, the City of Chicago's Commissioner of Fleet Management.

GM's Full-size Hybrid Pickups Hit Showrooms from The Tennessean General Motors Corp.'s new full-size hybrid pickups are arriving at dealerships, featuring an overall 25 percent increase in fuel economy over the base V-8 gasoline-only models, and a 40 percent increase in city mileage. The new vehicles are hitting showrooms as car and truck sales sag to near historic lows and as federal officials push for more fuel-efficient vehicles as part of the plan to resurrect the fortunes of U.S. automakers, an equation that includes billions of dollars in financial assistance from taxpayers.

Fed Says Loan Plan to Start March 25, May Add Rentals

The Federal Reserve said its $1 trillion program to prop up the market for auto and business loans will start disbursing funds March 25 and will probably accept securities backed by vehicle-fleet and equipment leases. The Fed also lowered interest rates and so-called collateral haircuts for loans tied to asset-backed securities with guarantees by the Small Business Administration or to government- guaranteed student loans, the central bank and U.S. Treasury said in a statement in Washington.

Toyota Talking on Japan Government Loan from The Detroit News Toyota's financing unit is in talks with a Japanese government-backed bank on possible lending, the automaker said, underlining the serious woes facing the car industry amid plunging global sales. Toyota Motor Corp. said no details had been decided. Kyodo News and NHK TV reported earlier in the day, without identifying sources, that Toyota's auto loan unit, Toyota Financial Services, had asked for a $2 billion government loan.

Ford May Resume Making Seats from Automotive News The UAW is trying to get Ford Motor Co. to bring seat production back in-house as a sweetener to a concessionary tentative labor agreement reached last week.
Ford's Rawsonville parts plant near Ypsilanti, Mich., was mentioned for seat production in a contract summary obtained by Automotive News.
