Ford to Build Own Diesel Engine for Super Duty from The Detroit News
Ford Motor Co. says it will build its own diesel engine to power the next generation of its F-Series Super Duty pickups, ending a bitter relationship with Navistar International Corp. The new, 6.7-liter turbocharged diesel V-8 will be manufactured at Ford's Chihuahua Engine Plant in Mexico. It is slated to debut on the 2011 Super Duty next year and promises significantly improved torque, horsepower and fuel economy. And Ford says it has made sure the new motor can manage 250,000 miles without a major hiccup.

Fiat Considering Two Commercial Trucks for North America from The Scoop Chrysler Group confirmed Tuesday it is considering two Fiat S.p.A. commercial vehicles for North America to replace the outgoing Dodge Sprinter, Automotive News reported.

Mercedes to Sell Sprinter Through its Own Stores from AutoWeek Magazine Mercedes-Benz USA is getting back into the commercial-van business Jan. 1 and will appoint up to 120 dealers to sell Sprinter vehicles.
That means Mercedes will yank the Sprinter from nearly 350 Dodge dealers who now carry the van.

Construction Spending Falls 0.2 Percent in July from Transport Topics U.S. construction spending slipped 0.2 percent in July, the Commerce Department said.
The decline followed a revised 0.1 percent gain in June. Spending was forecast to remain unchanged from June, Bloomberg reported.

July Factory Orders Rise 1.3 Percent from Transport Topics Factory orders rose 1.3 percent in July, the fourth straight gain, the Commerce Department said.
The increase followed a revised 0.9 percent increase in June that was higher than originally reported.

DEF Pumps Headed to Truckstops from Fleet Owner As trucking prepares to meet 2010 diesel emissions regulations, the first retail dispenser for diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) has been shipped by manufacturer Gilbarco Veeder-Root. The industry is moving to complete a national distribution network for DEF since trucks using selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology to reach 2010 emissions levels will need to fill up onboard tanks with DEF approximately 20 times a year.

Second-quarter Productivity Jumps 6.6 Percent from Transport Topics U.S. workers' productivity rose in the second quarter at an annual rate of 6.4 percent, higher than previously reported, the Labor Department said.
The rate was the largest in almost six years and followed a 0.3 percent rate in the first quarter.
