FedEx adds 51 new Azure Dynamics hybrid electric vans

FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp, announced it will purchase 51 additional gasoline-electric hybrid vehicles from Azure Dynamics Corporation. The FedEx fleet of hybrid electric and electric vehicles will total 325 when all 51 hybrid step-vans are delivered during November and December of 2009. Most of the new FedEx gasoline-electric vehicles will be put into service at a Bronx NY station, making it the first FedEx all-hybrid facility with about 100 trucks. MORE

Chrysler Group LLC is restructuring its electric program as it works to develop hybrids and electric vehicles for its own brands as well as for partner Fiat SpA. The combination of the extra duties, a change in the lineup of electrified vehicles on tap and the adoption of Fiat's product development system has resulted in the need to redistribute engineers who were grouped together in a special division known as ENVI under the leadership of Lou Rhodes. ACT: getting to normal production levels will be slow going

The commercial vehicle markets have been showing signs of recovery, but the sector still has a long way to go to return to normal replacement level demand, according to ACT Research. In its latest North American Commercial Vehicle Outlook, ACT expects Class 8 production during each quarter of 2010 to grow over 20 percent on a year-over-year basis. The researchers also say production will not reach replacement level rates until early 2011. More

Will Chrysler return to the Class 8 market that it left 34 years ago? Fred Diaz, CEO of Chrysler LLC's Dodge Ram Truck, said his group will explore expansion into heavy trucks while it adds Euro-style cargo vans and a new American light pickup. They'll all be called Rams but not overtly Dodge Rams because the Ram name has gained near-stand-alone brand status within Chrysler. More

States faced with big budget deficits will continue to grapple with diminished revenue until at least 2012, according to a new survey, Bloomberg reported. The $135 billion of funding under President Obama's economic stimulus package has prevented more drastic budget cuts from states, said the report by the National Governors Associations and the National Association of State Budget Officers.
