Consumers got back in the buying mood in October as their incomes grew modestly, an encouraging sign for the budding economic recovery. The average price of diesel fell slightly this week, landing at $2.787, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. This is the third straight week the fuel has been dropping, down from last week's average of $2.79. Prior to the declines, diesel prices had gained 22.6 cents. The U.S. economy expanded at a lower rate than previously reported in the third quarter, growing at a 2.8 percent annual rate versus the 3.5 percent reported last month, the Commerce Department said.
