Board of Regents appoints Boese as Executive Secretary for Veterinary Medicine

The New York State Education Department's Office of the Professions announced that the Board of Regents has appointed Stephen J. Boese as Executive Secretary for the State Boards for Medicine (including the Athletic Trainers Committee and the Medical Physics Committee), Dietetics/Nutrition and Veterinary Medicine. Boese assumed his new responsibilities today, May 1.

Simplified animal vaccine labels proposed by the USDA
American Animal Hospital Association
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the new animal vaccine labels would do away with the four tier system and introduce a single statement. The proposed rule would also change how safety and efficacy information is provided to the end user by referring them to the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service Center for Biologics website.

USDA will require reporting of killer piglet virus PEDv

In an expected move, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced new measures to combat the spread of disease in the U.S. pig population. The agency said it would require reporting of the porcine epidemic diarrhea virus, which has killed millions of piglets over the past year, and the swine delta coronavirus.

AVMA task force to develop proposal for compounding legislation
AVMA
A new American Veterinary Medical Association task force will develop a proposal for federal legislation to address issues related to veterinary compounding, pursuant to the association's policies on compounding. The AVMA Executive Board approved the task force during a Feb. 21 conference call. Issues related to veterinary compounding the task force will likely address include the legality of compounding from bulk substances, anticipatory compounding, maintaining office stocks of compounded products and dispensing compounded products from office stocks.
