U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan on Sept. 30 recognized 337 schools as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2014, based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. Pennsylvania schools get Flexible Instructional Days pilot program
Pennsylvania Department of Education
Acting Secretary of Education Carolyn Dumaresq announced that a Flexible Instructional Days pilot program is available to schools across the commonwealth. Flexible Instructional Days offer schools the ability to use nontraditional educational delivery methods on regularly scheduled school days in which circumstances, such as inclement weather, necessitate an alternate approach. The program is effective in the current school year.
