Free National Park Weekends Start Saturday

The U.S. National Park Service is looking to stimulate summer vacations at national parks, starting this weekend. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar announced earlier this month that entrance fees at 147 national parks and monuments—including the Grand Canyon and Yosemite—will be waived on three weekends this summer. The weekends are June 20 and 21, July 18 and 19, and Aug. 15 and 16. More    E-mail article

Griswold, the character portrayed by Chevy Chase in the popular 1983 comedy, National Lampoon's Vacation, is the dad who drags his family along on a cross-country vacation in the family station wagon. Oregon Town Considers RV Parking for Homeless

With the sour economy making it tougher for people to afford shelter, Springfield, Ore., officials might allow homeless families to camp in recreational vehicles in church parking lots. The program, similar to one in nearby Eugene, Ore., would be limited at first. City Manager Gino Grimaldi said only one RV per church parking lot would be permitted, and there would be fewer than a dozen churches taking part. "We want to see how it works," he said. RV Park in Ellendale, Minn., is Just About Ready

A new attraction for owners of recreational vehicles is coming to life just east of Interstate 35 near Ellendale, Minn. Crystal Springs RV Park plans to open for business late this month, according to co-owner Galen Youngkrantz. “We hope to cater to RV owners from the Twin Cities area who can leave their RV here all summer, come down after the workweek is over, and enjoy this area, returning to the RV park in the evening. RV Electrical System Basics for Motorhomes, Fifth Wheels & Travel Trailers

The electrical system in motorhome, fifth wheel and travel trailer recreational vehicles is really two electrical systems: 120 volt alternating current and 12 volt direct current. The 120 volt system is generally used to run the microwave oven, TV and RV air conditioner. Some lighting may also be 120 volts.
