Indiana's recession-battered recreational vehicle manufacturing industry received more good news today as a start-up towable RV maker in Miami County plans to expand and add 100 jobs by 2011. Riverside Travel Trailer, a company formed in Peru in June inside the former home of RV maker Adventure Manufacturing, will invest more than $1.1 million to purchase new equipment and make upgrades to the 130,000 square-foot building. More


Forest service wants to cut discounts to seniors/disabled

For decades, one of the big "bargains" that senior and disabled RVers could count on was "half off" when camping in U.S. Forest Service campgrounds. But Uncle Sam’s forest management agency is now testing the waters to see if they can seriously reduce the discount. More

Within driving distance of El Paso, Texas, and Carlsbad, N.M., the land, with its golden undertones and shades of brown, rises into what looks like the ramparts of a mythological fortress: the limestone bulk of El Capitan. This geologic formation, true to its name, resembles a ranking officer who has mustered his "troops" — the other natural wonders of Guadalupe Mountains National Park — for inspection. The scenery includes not only mountains but also sandy lowlands, cacti, a variety of trees, a canyon and a small waterfall. Ponderosa pine trees, Douglas firs and maples all grow in the park, which harbors the Guadalupe violet — a species of plant found nowhere else in the world — as well as animals such as peregrine falcons, horned lizards and black bears.  More

Thank God the summer of the "staycation" has finished. Boy, was that depressing. So now with 2010 to look forward to, and hopefully a slew of actual trips for everyone, it could be worthwhile to check out the options in RV Travel, especially with icons like Airstream reentering the scene. More

A report that examined trends in outdoor recreation this past year determined that 7.4 percent more people went car and backyard camping this summer than last year.
