  • Early-bird conference registration ends Jan. 17, 2014.
  • Online conference registration ends Feb. 15, 2014.

The prisoner population in the United States in 2012 declined for the third straight year, from 1,599,000 at year-end 2011 to 1,570,400 at year-end 2012. On Dec. 31, 2012, the number of persons sentenced to serve more than 1 year (1,511,500) in state or federal prison facilities decreased by 27,400 prisoners from year-end 2011 and by 42,600 from year-end 2009, when the U.S. prison population was at its peak.

Roberts warns of impact of budget cuts on judiciary

25 percent of GPS devices on Los Angeles County criminals were faulty

Twenty five percent of GPS devices used to track serious criminals released in Los Angeles County has proved to be faulty. This is according to a probation department audit, which also found that this allowed violent felons to roam undetected for days or, in some cases, weeks.
