Would I do that?
See you in Nashville beginning July 13, 2014!
Legendary bondsman and former PBUS President Gerald Monks once advised us all to "Get political or Get out of Bail." Monks was passionate in his belief that we must work with our local and state elected officials to protect the profession we love.
Have you ever gotten elected? Did you know that there are bail agents who have served as mayors, state assemblymen, state representatives, and county commissioners in their communities? Have you ever thought about running for public office? Don’t miss our panel discussion "Would I do that? A life in politics."
This panel discussion is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at the PBUS General Session. We welcome you to join us. This informative discussion is just one of the many benefits you will receive by joining your fellow bail agents in Nashville this summer.

Tonya Rynerson breaks stereotype about the bail bonds industry
Most people have no idea what to do or who to turn to when they need a bail bondsman.
They might envision having to go to a shady part of town to deal with a tattooed brute in a neonsigned storefront.
The bail bonds industry can evoke images from the reality series “Dog the Bounty Hunter,” but few people understand what really goes on inside the doors of a bail bonds agency.
Man gets 38 years in bail bondsmen killings
Stephen Stewart got more than 38 years in prison for the killings of bondsmen Zachary and Brandon Sims.
Just before the sentencing, members of the Sims family told Stewart they forgive him. He took a plea deal in April, days before a jury trial scheduled to begin. The prosecutor said he is satisfied with the 38-year sentence.
Police: Dog mauls bail bondsman in Oklahoma City
The unidentified Oklahoma City bondsman attempted to arrest Juan R. Gandarilla, 25, but according to police, Gandarilla ran back into the house. Police said a pit bull then attacked the bondsman. Police said the man tried to stop the dog using a stun gun but was unsuccessful. The man finally used pepper spray to ward off the dog. Police said the man had injuries that were not life-threatening.
Ohio struggles with rising prison population
The Columbus Dispatch
When Gary Mohr began his career at the Marion Correctional Institution in 1974, there were 8,516 inmates in state prisons. Forty years later, Mohr manages a system nearly six times as large, packed with 50,639 offenders.
New report slams 'unprecedented growth' in US prisons
The report, published by the National Research Council, describes the rise of incarceration in America as "historically unprecedented and internationally unique." It found that from 1973 to 2009, the prison population grew from about 200,000 to approximately 2.2 million. With this spike, the U.S. now holds close to a quarter of the world's prisoners, even though it accounts for just 5 percent of the global population.
Texas judge weigh benefits of juvenile detention vs. jail
In Texas, Bexar County District Court Judge Laura Parker said a lot of factors are considered when a judge certifies a minor to stand trial as an adult. "There would be testing done, there would be a probation report done and you would look at the seriousness of the offense," Parker said.
