Wanted woman in North Dakota arrested thanks to bounty hunters

A North Dakota woman wanted by the U.S. Marshal Service is in custody, thanks in part to a team of bounty hunters. A group of bounty hunters helped track Jessica Jones down, after finding out she may have been with a man they were looking for. The search for a man who skipped out on court led authorities to a bigger arrest — all with the help of bounty hunters.

Oklahoma lawmakers eye state prison population crisis

New California law targets sex offenders who disarm tracking devices

In California, Gov. Jerry Brown cracked down on sex offenders who disarm their electronic trackers while on parole, signing legislation requiring that they stay in jail once they are caught. Some counties with severely crowded jails have freed such offenders almost immediately after detaining them for tampering with the GPS devices, a recent investigation found.

New psychosis center in Maryland aims to prevent violence

Maryland was one of several states that reacted to last year's mass shooting at a Newtown, Conn., school by boosting mental health spending or tightening gun control laws for people with severe mental illness. Unlike the other states, however, Maryland also is focusing directly on psychosis — the specific symptom that makes violence more likely.
