T-Mobile beefing up network to lure iPhone

The nation's fourth-largest carrier, a unit of Deutsche Telekom AG, is spending $4 billion over the next several years to upgrade its network, rolling out so-called 4G LTE technology in 2013 at an initial cost of $1.4 billion, according to Chief Executive Philipp Humm. Ergen: Dish has 80 percent chance of succeeding with broadband wireless

Dish Network chairman Charlie Ergen said that he thinks Dish has an 80 percent chance of successfully launching a broadband wireless and phone business, noting that the FCC has the power to determine if Dish will eventually be able to market a triple play of video, high-speed Internet and phone service that could compete with cable operators. AT&T urges customers to dump 2G, upgrade to 3G and 4G

Verizon to deploy LTE femtocells, small cells

Verizon Wireless will begin deploying LTE small cells and femtocells sometime in the future to meet growing capacity demands, according to a recent filing the carrier made with the FCC. However, Verizon did not indicate when it would do so. Verizon divulged the news as part of a wide-ranging filing the carrier made in support of its planned $3.9 billion purchase of nationwide AWS spectrum licenses held by SpectrumCo, a joint venture of cable companies Comcast, Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks, as well as AWS holdings from Cox Communications. Mobile commerce market set to accelerate with NFC facilitating $74 billion transactions by 2015
