Big Y Foods — a regional supermarket known for its experimental approach to marketing — is offering a deal through Groupon, a first for large grocery stores. "For us, it's just a way to test another medium," Harry Kimball, director of database marketing for the Springfield, Mass.-based grocery chain, told Marketing Daily. "It's a way for us to get the message out, and tie it to our loyalty program. The Pantry Inc. is breathing new life into a World War II Jeep to travel from city to city in a summer-long celebration to honor U.S. Forces and their families. Subway runs mobile 'Green Lantern' contest
Location-based marketing platform Scvngr announced new brand partners in Subway, Sears and Swatch. For Subway, it marks the first national campaign with a geo-social player involving a formal agreement. Subway, based in Milford, Conn., is using the mobile platform to promote adding avocado to its menu options. For an effort running until July 12, the retail chain will reward 25 Scvngr players with two free tickets to the Hollywood premiere of upcoming Warner Bros. film, "The Green Lantern." Quaker State offers cash reward for reaching 300,000 miles with its oil
If you're thinking of driving your car to the 300,000-mile mark, the maker of Quaker State oil will pay you as much as $3,000 — as long as you use its oil. The oil brand launched the Quaker State Cash Back Program as part of its updated limited-warranty program. According to the company, the warranty is one of the first of its kind that follows the vehicle makers' recommendation for oil changes instead of its own. More

In addition to the four keynote speakers announced recently for the 33rd PMA Marketing Law Conference (Nov. 15-16 at the Chicago Marriott Downtown), the speakers for several other sessions have been finalized. Leading the panel on Green Marketing will be Jeff Greenbaum, partner, Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz PC; Gabriel T. Martinez, advertising counsel, The Clorox Company; and Wendy S. Reed, partner, Heenan Blaikie LLP. This discussion will cover all the major issues in environmental marketing, with particular attention given to the FTC's revised green marketing guidelines initiated at the end of last year. The conference will also feature several sessions dealing with major privacy initiatives, such as behavioral advertising, developing and using location-based apps, as well as a new session on the basics of privacy, which will be led by Julie O'Neill, of counsel, Morrison & Foerster LLP.
