Planning for next winter
Today's Facility Manager
Facility managers must devise and implement a robust communications system that provides occupants and other stakeholders with comprehensive and necessary information in a timely fashion. Such a system should be standardized and tested, with clear procedures and protocols for communication that must be followed at every stage of a storm. Appropriate reports and records must be kept to ensure that the system is being consistently used by all relevant persons. An effective system will reduce uncertainty and stress while providing confidence that the same level of communication will be maintained in an emergency situation or severe weather event.

How to advance your facilities career
By Denny Hydrick
You're already "God's gift to the facilities engineering world" or to the maintenance management world or to any world (take your pick). You never make mistakes. You're flexible, always on time, rarely take breaks, well-liked, communicative and so on. To sum this up with fewer adjectives: You are a perfect employee. Of course I typed that tongue-in-cheek, but let's suppose for a moment that you possess some of those attributes. You are a good employee and you are good at your job, how then do you advance your career?

Reuters via Chicago Tribune
Sales for many U.S. retailers rose in February, as shoppers ventured out later in the month after a dismal start when ice, cold and snow kept many of them at home. Costco Wholesale Corp. said U.S. sales at stores open at least a year rose 3 percent, while L Brands Inc reported a better-than-expected 2 percent rise, lifted by gains at its Victoria's Secret lingerie chain.
