Apple gets sweet deals from mall operators
The Wall Street Journal
Apple Inc.'s huge gravitational pull on mall traffic is distorting the market for mall rents, winning the iPhone maker sweetheart deals and putting upward pressure on other tenants’ leases. Apple draws so many shoppers that its stores single-handedly lift sales by 10 percent at the malls in which they operate, according to Green Street Advisors, a real-estate research firm. That gives Apple the clout to negotiate extremely low rents for itself relative to its sales, while creating upward pressure on prices paid by mall neighbors who might not benefit from the traffic.

HVAC trends: Cooling controls
Facility Executive
For reducing energy consumption of the HVAC systems in the typical building, can we say that it is a "no brainer" to apply variable speed drives on everything from pumps to fans? Traditionally, these have been two of the major targets for implementing Energy Conservation Measures within facilities. VSDs provide a means to operate a fan or pump much more energy efficiently. It is commonly stated that the only way to achieve additional energy savings over a VSD, is to turn the pump or fan off. But there is more facility professionals can do in this regard.

The Washington Post
The beauty industry has had something of a makeover recently as cosmetics retailers have learned an important lesson about selling their goods to millennials: They don't want to buy makeup the same way their moms did. The clearest evidence of this shift has been the explosive growth of Sephora and Ulta, specialty beauty retailers that have gained traction with shoppers by offering an in-store experience that is distinct in the beauty marketplace.
