Consumer spending up despite higher gas prices
The Washington Post    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Americans might complain about higher gasoline prices, but new government data show that hasn't stopped them from driving to the mall. Retail sales jumped 1.1 percent in February, the biggest monthly increase since last fall, the Commerce Department reported. Consumers went shopping for new cars, clothes, electronics and sporting goods despite spending 3.3 percent more at gas stations. The results boosted estimates of how fast the economy is growing, particularly on the heels of data showing a strengthening job market. More

The 700,000-square-foot Salt Lake City mall has something other projects don't: financial backing from the development arm of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as the Mormon church is formally known. Its tenants include Nordstrom Inc., Macy's Inc., Tiffany & Co . and Michael Kors Holdings Ltd. as well as midmarket retailers like Foot Locker Inc., Gap and others. More

The New York Times    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
When Donald G. Futterman, the founder of the retail brokerage RKF, who represented the company in some leases. The retail leasing business has come a long way since then. More
