Just three weeks ago, Japan was struck by a 9.0 magnitude earthquake, the most powerful quake in the country's history. With estimates for the dead and missing in the thousands, and those displaced from their homes in the tens of thousands, the level of suffering is unfathomable.

The Professional Retail Store Maintenance Association (PRSM) will make an immediate donation of $10,000 to GlobalGiving's Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund, which is coordinating directly with six organizations (Japan Platform, Peace Winds, Save the Children, Architecture for Humanity, International Medical Corps and Lifeline Energy) who are already on the ground and providing assistance in Japan's affected regions.

According to NRF's 2010 Tax Returns Consumer Intentions and Actions Survey, conducted by BIGresearch, 43.9 percent of Americans expecting a refund will pay down debt, fewer than the 48.0 percent in 2009. However, only 65.5 percent of tax payers are expecting a refund, down from 68.4 percent last year. According to the survey, 12.5 percent of people expecting a refund plan to treat themselves or their families to a major purchase such as a new television, furniture or car, up from 11.0 percent last year.
