Gap, Walgreens to open big stores downtown DC

Fashion stores and restaurants have begun to open their doors at CityCenter DC, the six-building complex on the footprint of the old convention center, and nearby D.C. developer Douglas Development continues to add new offerings downtown and in the Penn Quarter neighborhood a few blocks east.

Internet florist adding retail stores in Boston

At a time when traditional retailers are shuttering thousands of stores, the e-commerce giant 1-800-Flowers.com is expanding its network of brick and mortar locations. The company plans to expand its local presence from just one franchisee-owned retail store in Melrose to as many as 11 sprinkled throughout Greater Boston.

National Retail Federation to launch cybersecurity platform

Washington retail district's future rides on streetcars

The streetcars stopped running in 1949, replaced by buses. In the wake of the assassination of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. the 1968 riots devastated the commercial corridor. Only in recent years has revitalization occurred and gentrification taken hold. This summer, if all goes as planned, the return of streetcars after 65 years will be another step forward for the former H Street NE shopping district in the nation's capital.

Metro Vancouver retail property sales outpace others in 2013
The Vancouver Sun
Sales of retail property assets around Metro Vancouver last year surged ahead of multi-family and office space deals, according to the recent Metro Vancouver Investment report, assembled by Colliers International and RealNet Canada. Overall real estate investment in the region decreased from $3.5 billion in 2012 to $3.1 billion over 575 transactions in 2013 across all measured asset classes — office, industrial, retail and multi-family, the report said.

Owner of Brookfield Square, Regency to sell 21 malls

The owner of Brookfield Square and Regency Mall in Racine plans to sell 21 of its shopping malls. CBL & Associates Properties Inc., based in Chattanooga, Tenn., will sell the malls over the next two to three years, shedding a quarter of its current properties, according to the Chattanooga Times Free Press.
