Dallas/Fort Worth top US market for shopping and retail construction
The Dallas Morning News
Traditionally North Texas has been one of the country's fastest growing retail development markets because, well, we love to shop. But the last few years, that's not been so much. The recession hit the shopping center development market harder than probably any commercial building sector and it’s been slower to come back than, say, the apartment market where building is booming.

The store involvement was part of a larger effort to explain and publicize the company's environmental progress, including a new set of Web pages, a video titled "Better" that is narrated by Apple CEO Tim Cook, and a soon-to-be-released report on the company's environmental programs.

What's different about tomorrow's mall: You never have to leave
CNBC
In place of these customary lessees, new types of tenants — grocery stores, fitness centers and even post offices — have become mainstays at many malls across America. But these nontraditional tenants have not only helped occupancy rates at shopping centers rebound from their post-recession lows. They also help consumers combine trips to one destination, therefore encouraging cross-shopping among the mall's other tenants.

Indoor lighting and its effect on emotions
By Jeannea Jones
Lighting levels impact many aspects of human performance such as vision, cognition and mood, thus the effects on productivity in the workplace or learning in a classroom environment cannot be dismissed without impact. According to research, the way a room is lit can affect decision-making, with bright light affecting our emotional system and acting as a possible catalyst for more intense emotions. Facility managers should evaluate the lighting levels in different settings — industrial, commercial, residential or academic — in order to strike the right balance.
