Apple's US facilities now get 100 percent of their power from renewables

All of Apple's U.S. facilities — and 87 percent of its operations worldwide — are now powered by renewable energy, according to an annual report. In its Environmental Responsibility Report, Apple said that as of 2014 all of its U.S. data centers, corporate offices and more than 450 Apple Retail Stores around the world are running on renewables.

Sears, Macerich make headlines

Sears Holdings Corp. has entered into a joint venture with The Macerich Co. as part of Sears Holdings' continued efforts to enhance its financial flexibility and generate value from its real estate portfolio. This is the third joint venture Sears has made this month; after partnerships with General Growth and Simon Property Group, generating $858 million for the cash-strapped Sears overall. Macerich contributed $150 million in cash.

Forever 21 coming back to downtown Brooklyn, New York
The Real Deal Magazine
Forever 21 has signed a 40,000-square-foot lease at 490 Fulton Street in Downtown Brooklyn, with the retailer returning to the neighborhood it left in 2007. The clothing store will open its F21 Red store concept at the five-story building by the end of the year. Other tenants at the property, controlled by the Chera family's Crown Acquisitions, include Planet Fitness, Express and Raymour & Flanigan Furniture.

Energy Department, NIBS release Better Buildings Workforce Guidelines

As a part of the Obama Administration's effort to support greater energy efficiency through the Better Buildings Initiative, the U.S. Department of Energy and the National Institute of Building Sciences have announced new Better Buildings Workforce Guidelines. The Better Buildings Workforce Guidelines, developed with feedback from industry experts, will help enhance and streamline commercial building workforce training and certification programs.

EU sets the bar higher on HFC phasedown

The European Union likes to think of itself as something of a pacesetter when it comes to protecting the environment, and it clearly sees its F-Gas Regulation as demonstrating leadership to the rest of the world in the area of refrigerant controls. In that context, it was perhaps no surprise that the European Commission recently seized the opportunity of the ongoing talks around the Montreal Protocol to propose ambitious targets on HFC phasedown for the rest of the world to follow.
